My little girls keep me busy, but I always find time to sneak away to the craft room. I am dabbling in many mediums to find my true calling (but I have an inkling it will always involve fabric)...

Soooo, I went back to art league last night only to find my bust busted! She had huge cracks. I had expected some cracking, but I had no idea it would be this bad. I was crushed.

But luckily Pat, a friend and fellow art league member, had some ideas on how I could fix her, and I just happened to have all the supplies at hand. I wrapped her torso up in medical gauze, then paper mached over the whole thing. I would have rather of kept her in clay form, but I was afraid I would just get more cracking if I tried to patch her up with more clay. So, I spent the night making a mess with paper mache.

Today I researched my options on doing a mold. I think my best bet would be Urethane RTV which is similar to silicone. But since my bust is so large, its going to cost me a pretty penny to do it. I think for now I’m going to put a few more layers of paper mache on her, so that I can hollow her out some. I’ll just have to use the original at my upcoming shows and do the mold another time.
(See my previous post HERE on how I started my bust)

Transformation is under way! But for some reason I decided to start at like midnight the other day moving around furniture in my craft room. lol Boy was I tired the next morning. It turned out to be a bit of a larger project than I had thought! But, I am so happy with the way its turning out. I’m actually going to have some blank wall space! Wow!! I set up my new Ikea shelf, and it looks great. Now to clean up and start organizing some more!
Here’s some photos I took at 1am of the big mess I was making! (I swear, I was having withdrawals having the computer unplugged for so long! lol)
(You can see my before pics HERE.)

PS, My new EZup tent came in the mail!! I had hubby help me set it up the back yard so I can get a look at it. Yay, I’m so happy to finally have one! :)

I have always wanted an old dress form in my craft room. I just drool over the photos I find on the net… you know, the old fabric ones decorated with brooches or necklaces, sometimes a sparkly crown. But, I have no room for one right now, not to mention the extra funds. Plus, I don’t have many flea markets or vintage shops in the area, so I have no clue where to start looking. I did find the one I wanted to buy (pictured to the right), that is, if I can’t find an actual vintage one. I found it from DressFormMall on eBay.
Anyway, the reason I bring my love to your attention, is because I’ve decided to make one. Yup, MAKE one. I know, I’m crazy. But, you see, I’ve been creating a lot of necklaces for my upcoming Earth Day Fair, and I wanted to display them somehow. I love the look of necklaces on a bust, and because of my previously mentioned delemas on getting a full sized vintage one of my dreams, I started looking for a smaller tabletop version. I had no luck. They were either too expensive, or just too big. So, I had a crazy idea start brewing in my head… I could make one. And not only that, I plan to make a cast of it to recreate it. I know, its insane.
So, on Tuesday night I dragged a bag full of clay, wire, newspaper, tons of tape, and some tools to my art league meeting. Of course bringing in these odd supplies to an art league meeting stirred up some questions; so I had to explain myself. They thought I was nuts. I had an inkling of doubt, but I dove right in to the project determined to make it work. My plan was to create a wire form, stuff it with newspaper, then finish it off with clay. Luckily one of my buddies suggested I use a large soda bottle as a base. We just happened to have one in the room, so I gave that a try. With a little snipping in the back, it fit just perfectly within my bust template I had prepared. I worked on it for about two and a half hours, and the whole time I couldn’t stop myself from giggling as I sculpted her. We were all laughing about me sculpting “boobies”. lol
I ran out of time quickly. I stayed a bit later than usual but I wish I had even more time to work on her. I’m happy with the way it came out though. It’s a lot better than I had even hoped for. But, the whole time I was making it, I was cursing myself for forgetting my camera! lol So, no pictures yet. :( I had to leave the bust in our art room to dry. Next Tuesday I’ll probably take some more time to smooth out the clay some more and perfect it. After that, I’m scared. My plan was to make a cast of it out of plaster or perhaps silicone, so that I have a mold of it. That way, I could make copies out of paper mache. It would be much lighter in paper mache, plus I’d be able to make as many as I wanted. Right now in her clay version she weighs about five pounds! Making a mold of her would require cutting her in half. That’s what scares me. What if I ruin her? I’m not sure what to do… I guess I could always make another if she got ruined. I must face my fears!
I’ll leave you with some beautiful inspiration photos.

PS I always wondered how people made these awesome photo mosaics. I finally discovered how! Just visit Mosaic Maker to make your own! For flickr photos, you just have to insert the page url, not the photo url that you get from right clicking on the photo. (I found that out the hard way of course!)

I’m finally working on my blog theme! Yay! It’s about time! lol So, please excuse the mess while I get it all set up. :) Still have some kinks to work out, and still need to finish my topper…
Although the old template was pretty neat, it just wasn’t me.
So, say goodbye to this old template

Well, I’m sure you saw it coming after my last post! lol I’ve been mia past few weeks. I’ve been up to my ears in work, plus I started re-arranging my craft room. Why on earth do I take on large projects when I’m already busy? I do not know… I guess I just work better under pressure. I finished up my two large wholesale orders in time, made a couple purses and charm bracelets for the craft show, and started working on more JuNk pins and bottle caps. I tore down my old peg board with shelves, and built a new larger one for my corner. It’s almost finished. I’ll have pics up soon! First I want to put together my ikea shelf that’s been sitting there for weeks.
Anywho, I’m getting really excited for next month’s shows. I’ve been researching craft displays and looking for a new tent. But I still have tons more crafting to do! Be back soon! ;)

I have never felt so overwhelmed. This week feels like the busiest week ever! At least the worst is past me. I hate when the 1st of the month falls on a Monday; it’s like two worlds are colliding! lol Mondays are always busy with shipping out orders and catching up on emails from over the weekend; but when it falls on the 1st, I also have to prepare for my Crafty Ave newsletter by adding all the new patterns, writing up the news, updating the website, and sending out artist payments. Needless to say I was up until 1am last night working. The rest of the week will be just as busy, but at least Monday is done and over with. Not only am I starting to feel the pressures of my deadline for the Earth Day fair, but I’ve been invited to do another show in April at the Beardsley Zoo. I have two wholesale orders to finish up this week… which means gluing, pouring, drilling, and more gluing of about 400 bottle caps, and sewing up an Americana quilt and wrapping some rag balls. Let’s see.. what else…. I have my art league meeting tonight, and I have my girls crafting meeting on Friday. I just might bring my crafting supplies to art league tonight to work on the craft fair goodies.
I’m starting to see a trend here… I come on over to write a blog post, I pour out all my bad news and complaints, then I say “OH, and here’s the good news”. lol Okay, so let’s get to the good news. As I’ve said, I was invited to do another craft show at the Beardsley Zoo! I didn’t mean for that to slip out during my cranky tantrum. It IS good news. I am so excited! I haven’t officially agreed to it yet though. I’m not sure if I’ll even have enough products to do two shows in only about six weeks from now. It’s a two day show, but I can do only one of the days if I wanted; which is great. Before even getting this invite, I was already feeling overwhelmed with the crafting I have to catch up on, that I invited two of my friends to help me out. Marla will be joining me with her fun soda can jewelry, and Jen will be joining me with her beautiful hemp wrapped jars. The three of us have decided to get together every Friday to craft together for the show. I’ll try to remember to take some photos this Friday!
For the show, I have finished up a couple more zipper pouches made from wrappers. Although, I’m still having a perfectionist problem. I made one perfect pouch, and thought I had it down pat. Then I made another one, and it came out a bit skewed. Darn! I’m not sure what the difference was, or what went wrong. I’ll keep trying! Everyone is telling me they look just fine. Perhaps it’s just the perfectionist in me. I also started making some charm bracelets with charms made from plastic bottles. They look so great! I’m keeping the first one for myself! :0) OH and I found a way to put a bit of color on my jelly fish!! Yay! (Still never finished that cereal box container! lol)
I’ll have some photos for you soon! But, here’s a sneak peek of the plastic charm bracelets I’m working on.
